FINAL

MINUTES
GLENVIEW HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
September 26, 2005

Call to Order by the Chairman
The September 26, 2005, meeting of the Glenview Historic Preservation Commission was
called to order by Chairman Silver at 7:35 p.m. in the Lunch Room of the Village Hall.

Roll Call and Declaration of a Quorum
Roll call was taken, and Chairman Silver noted that a quorum was present.

PRESENT:

Commissioners Dawson, Kramer, Pappas, Wendy and
Chairman Silver

ABSENT:

Commissioner Conway

ALSO PRESENT: Ms. Lisa Porter, Staff Liaison

GUEST:

Former HPC Commissioner Norma Morrison

Approval of Minutes
Chairman Silver asked for corrections or comments to Minutes of the Historic Preservation
Commission meeting of August 8, 2005. There were no corrections.

Commissioner Dawson moved to approve the August 8, 2005 Minutes. Commissioner
Kramer seconded the motion. Upon voice vote the motion carried 4-0.

General Communications
None.

Chairman Silver permitted Ms. Morrison (former HPC Commissioner) to address the
Commission. Ms. Morrison began by expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to
present to the Commission her idea which aims to improve Glenview's downtown. Ms.
Morrison suggested merchants along Glenview Road fund banners hung on poles which say
"Historic Downtown Glenview." She requested the HPC make a statement to the Downtown
Planning Committee (DPC), chaired by Trustee Woodrow, on behalf of the historic element
of downtown. Consultants over the years have referred to certain areas of Glenview's
downtown as "historic" and Ms. Morrison hopes that those areas can be recognized and
designated historic as it will lend something special to the community. At a recent DPC
meeting, Chairman Woodrow reminded the Committee of the care necessary when dealing
with historic structures and did not want to lose the historic feel of downtown; he said, "It
should be preserved."
