Ms. Morrison began by expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to
present to the Commission her idea which aims to improve Glenview's downtown. Ms.
Morrison suggested merchants along Glenview Road fund banners hung on poles which say
"Historic Downtown Glenview." She requested the HPC make a statement to the Downtown
Planning Committee (DPC), chaired by Trustee Woodrow, on behalf of the historic element
of downtown. Consultants over the years have referred to certain areas of Glenview's
downtown as "historic" and Ms. Morrison hopes that those areas can be recognized and
designated historic as it will lend something special to the community. At a recent DPC
meeting, Chairman Woodrow reminded the Committee of the care necessary when dealing
with historic structures and did not want to lose the historic feel of downtown; he said, "It
should be preserved."
