MINUTES <br />GLENVIEW HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />March 12, 2001 <br />The March 12, 2001, meeting of the Glenview Historic Preservation Commission was <br />called to order by Chairman David Silver at 7:35 PM in the Board Room of the Village <br />Hall. Ms. Wiseman took roll call. Chairman Silver noted that there was a quorum present. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Commissioners Browne, Dawson, Dickson, Eich, Neymark, Ruter, <br />and Chairman Silver <br /> <br />ABSENT: Commissioners Hussman, Kramer, Morrison, and Reder <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Helen Wiseman, Registered Architect and Staff Liaison <br /> <br />Chairman Silver asked for corrections to the minutes of the February 12, 2001 meeting. <br />On page 4 of the minutes, it should read: <br />form <br />Paragraph 4 - “After discussion, the following change to the was suggested” <br />approve <br />Last sentence - “…the commission would have to the appearance if it were to <br />built on.” <br />Commissioner Dickson moved to approve the minutes as amended. Commissioner Eich <br />seconded the motion. Upon voice vote, motion carried. <br /> <br />Chairman Silver asked if there were any general communications. Ms. Wiseman stated <br />that she distributed to the commissioners the updated committee names, addresses, phone <br />numbers, e-mails, terms. Ms. Wiseman gave the commissioners the following <br />information to add to the handout: <br /> Helen Wiseman <br />Phone # 847-724-1700 extension 279 <br />Fax # 847-724-1752 <br />General phone # 847-724-1700 extension 217 <br /> <br /> <br />Chairman Silver introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Ms. Susan Benjamin, <br />former chairman of Highland Park’s Historic Preservation Commission. <br /> <br />Ms. Benjamin gave a brief history of Highland Park’s commission. <br />- Commission in existence for 15 years <br />- Took two years to gain community support to establish a commission <br /> <br />Other comments: <br />- Extremely important for community involvement and participation. (Ms. <br />Benjamin feels strongly about community involvement.) <br />- Residents “want to do what they want to do, yet preserve the character” of the <br />community. <br />- Important to have conversational, friendly atmosphere. <br />- Preference is to sit around a table to create a friendly atmosphere. <br />- Set tables in a “big O.” <br />- Have extra chairs available for petitioner and supporters. <br />- Serve cookies and coffee. <br />- Diffuse the formal we/you atmosphere. <br />
