Chairman Silver stated that he
felt the article would offer the commissioners insight into what other people have run into
in regards to preservation.

Chairman Silver stated that he felt it was important for the commission as a whole to
continue to review the Rules for Procedures very carefully so that problems may be
avoided as they begin to discuss landmarks presented to the commission.

Chairman Silver introduced Nan Greenough, Chairperson of Winnetka’s Landmark
Commission. Ms. Greenough has had eight (8) years experience. She spoke briefly
about the Winnetka commission feeling overwhelmed at first and how politics does put
pressure on the commission. Ms. Greenough gave a slide presentation to the commission
with insight as well as a touch of humor.

Some highlights of the presentation:
- Preservation to Ms. Greenough means “quality of life.”
- Some things never change.
- Changes came about slowly in the early years with rapid change taking place in the
last century.
